How To Keep Cool In 7 Easy Steps Thursday, Jul. 11, 2002 - 1:19 PM
Wow. I just went out and bought a Frap and hot dog. It's 73 degrees out there. If I had a hammock, I'd take a nap. But while we have the best temperatures we've had in about 4 weeks, in the west they're breaking temperature records like crazy. And, since I know a little bit about hot temperatures (I was in India a few years ago when they had the hottest temperatures they'd had in 50 years - 115 to 125 degrees - and spent the day sight seeing at the temple ruins. The temple ruins are just a large pile of rocks. With no trees. In the open desert. Rock climbing in 115 degree weather. That's smart. Wow, that was a long parenthetical sidenote.) I thought I'd share tips on how to keep cool. 1 - Don't go outside. 2 - Stay inside. 3 - Make sure inside has an air conditioner. 4 - Stay near the vents. 5 - Heat rises. 6 - Take a shower and lay under a ceiling fan. This is the fastest method of cooling off. and my favorite... 7 - Don't wear underwear. I realize that number five wasn't a tip, it was a fact, but I thought it was a good one that needed to be heard. It gets left out a lot. Everyone talks about smoke rising, but heat is oft less talked about.
