Breaking News: WTOP Has Lost It
Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 - 10:50 AM

So in the car this morning, we were listening to WTOP News (1500 AM in DC). For roughly an hour they had teasers about Krispy Kreme closing its doors forever. Read the story, then come back. Go on... I'll wait.

What kind of morons decided this should be what was advertised for an hour? It's not even news! An alternate headline would have been "Krispy Kreme Moves Next Door". When did we start reporting this as news? If the Krispy Kreme franchise were going out of business forever, that'd be one thing, but this? Are they going to start reporting "McDonald's Closes Its Doors" with a story of "McDonald's closed at 11:30 PM last night for a full 7 hours. Officials stated that due to their employee's needs to sleep at night and the decline of purchases between 11:30 PM and 6:30 AM, McDonald's will not be open during these hours. The practice, which started in 1927, will not be changed."

Well... put on your best black clothes and head to Alexandria for the sad, sad eulogy. Bring your credit card so you can buy your special issue, limited edition, comemorative doughnuts before this building closes its doors forever.

Talk about a slow news day.
